Frequently Asked Questions

How do I get the latest theme version to see new features?

Previous purchasers can get a FREE download of the latest theme version for the same store for which it was bought. This Shopify article explains more.

How do I create my menu?

Masonry supports up to three tiers of main menu navigation using two different styles on desktop - 'Flyout' (as seen on Flamingo) and 'Inside' (per our Coyote demo store). More details on setting up Shopify navigation are here.

Can I display multiple currencies?

Yes, the currencies displayed can be specified in your theme settings. When using apps be sure to check there's no impact on your currency display.

Can I add a contact form?

Yes. This will send an email containing the contact information to the store owner. To use it, create a normal page for your contact form. After creating and saving this page, you will see a new drop-down appear to allow you to select the contact template for this page.

What size should my images be?

This article explains more about image sizing in our themes.

Can I shorten the blog article text on the homepage?

Yes, create a summary by clicking on the Add Excerpt link below your blog article content.

Can I change the Shopify text in the footer?

Yes, you can change static text labels in your store in the Language Editor

Can I change the payment icons?

Payment icons are pulled directly from Shopify based on your payment settings.

How do I create a story page?

Create a new page using the page.story template then head into the theme editor to add in your additional content to the page. You can see this in action on our Coyote demo store. More details are here.

How do I make my slideshow images smaller?

Our images will always scale horizontally to fill the width of your site, but you can alter the amount of screen your slideshow occupies by adjusting the relative height of your images. A portrait or square image results in a really tall slideshow. A thin letterbox image creates a compact slideshow. Don't forget to make your image sizes consistent across all the slides!

Can I add other fonts?

Yes, but you would likely need to hire a developer to custom write code for your store.

Does the theme include a newsletter pop-up or image zoom?

Both of these can easily be achieved with apps, there are plenty of completely free options for pop-ups, and inexpensive zoom The advantage of an app is that it's constantly updated, will be whereas anything we included natively in the theme would become out of date over time:

Image Zoom Apps             Pop-up Window Apps

General theme settings

Product grid

Tip: Supersize some product images in your homepage and collection page layout by adding the tag "meta-image-large" to the product.  Warning: We don't suggest using this together with the fixed product thumbnail size setting as it will result in large gaps in your product thumbnail layout!

Use the Show quick view option to show the product options in a pop-up window without taking the user from your homepage or collection pages.

You can change the 'Sale' / 'Sold' sticker position by changing the Overlay label location setting.

The Masonry theme also includes the option to show a low inventory label (for items with a single variant) or your own label text.  To specify your own text, give your product a tag in the format: meta-label-YOUR LABEL TEXT!(commas are not supported). There is only space for one label to show at a time. The Sold Out label has the highest priority, followed by the Sale label then low stock and finally the custom tag label option.

Use the Specific product thumbnail ratio settings to keep all of your product images on your homepage and collection pages in an even grid - choose the best tile size, spacing and thumbnail image ratio for your product shots.

Choose whether to search only products or also include page content and blog articles.

Allow customers to choose another currency to view prices in your stores. Note, customers will always have to checkout in your store's base currency unless you are on the Shopify Plus plan.

Theme styles

The Symmetry theme is available in 4 styles - ChameleonCoyoteDragonfly or Flamingo. These demo stores aim to illustrate the variety of looks possible with the theme. Choose your theme style in the Theme Settings tab. This will include the demo stores styles - fonts, colours and shared page settings - but will not replace any sections already added to your homepage.

Applying a theme style will overwrite any existing settings in your Theme Settings tab. Your section specific settings won't be affected. More information about theme styles can be found in this Shopify article.

Header section

The theme supports three menu tiers set up in the usual Shopify way. Masonry doesn't use drop-down menus, but instead has two options for the Child navigation style on desktop - choose from 'Inside' to show tiers within the same menu pane, or 'Flyout' to show the second tier in an overlay panel on top of the main content.

Tip: If some of your menu options are already expanded when you visit your homepage, this is just a simple set up issue - not a bug.  You won't need to alter any code to fix it. The likely problem here is that you have set the top menu items to link to your homepage. So when you visit the homepage, it intentionally expands these active items. You need to set each of these top-level menu items to link to web address # - the hash/pound symbol.

Announcement bar

Add an announcement bar at the top of your Masonry Shopify theme site, to promote your latest offers - add a link to a specific product or offer page, and choose a colour for the bar.

Promotional links

You can add button style promotional links to the bottom of your navigation, ideal for adding calls to action like 'SALE NOW ON' and 'OUR STORY'.

Advanced features and tips

Shopify product reviews

The theme includes built-in code to support Shopify product reviews (apps.shopify.com/product-reviews) on the home page, product pages and collection pages. If you add the free Shopify reviews app, the theme will automatically show them.

Mailchimp and other 3rd party email integrations

There isn't a way for us to provide 3rd party email platform integration into the theme code (there are many providers, and we are not permitted to 'favourite' one over another). You'll need to use an app or hire a developer to synchronise your newsletter signups with your chosen provider. Search, for example, for 'Mailchimp' in the Shopify app store.
