Frequently Asked Questions

How do I get the latest theme version to see new features?

Previous purchasers can get a FREE download of the latest theme version for the same store for which it was bought. This Shopify article explains more.

My slideshow image appears cropped on some screens, how can I change this?

Yes, choose from two different layout options - fill the window (cropping the image to fill the screen) or choose to show the whole image, which won't fill the screen on mobile devices. (supported from version 2.7.0)

Can I add a contact form?

Yes. This will send an email containing the contact information to the store owner. To use it, create a normal page for your contact form. After creating and saving this page, you will see a new drop-down appear to allow you to select the contact template for this page.

Can I shorten the blog article text on the homepage?

Yes, create a summary by clicking on the Add Excerpt link below your blog article content.

Can I change the Shopify and Clean Themes text in the footer?

Yes, you can change static text labels in your store in the Language Editor

Can I create pages that list out selection collections?

Yes, you can edit the collections shown on the collections listing page in the theme editor. Or, if you want to create multiple collection listing pages, this article explains how. Just skip the "Create your new page template" section, as the theme already includes a "page.list-collections" template.

Can I change the payment icons?

Payment icons are pulled directly from Shopify based on your payment settings.

How do I create a story page?

Create a new page using the page.story template then head into the theme editor to add in your additional content to the page. You can see this in action on our Native demo store
More details are here.

How do I make my slideshow images smaller?

Our images will always scale horizontally to fill the width of your site, but you can alter the amount of screen your slideshow occupies by adjusting the relative height of your images. A portrait or square image results in a really tall slideshow. A thin letterbox image creates a compact slideshow. Don't forget to make your image sizes consistent across all the slides!

What size should my images be?

This article explains more about image sizing in our themes.

Can I add other fonts?

Yes, but you will need to hire a developer to add other typefaces to your store.

Does the theme include a newsletter pop-up or image zoom?

Both of these can  be achieved with apps, there are plenty of completely free options for pop-ups, and inexpensive zoom. Please note however that the product pages already show large images in this theme, so zoom apps my not work too well! The advantage of an app is that it's constantly updated, will be whereas anything we included natively in the theme would become out of date over time:

General theme settings

Theme styles

The Showcase theme is available in 4 styles - BeardBettyLuna and Native. These demo stores aim to illustrate the variety of looks possible with the theme. Choose your theme style in the Theme Settings tab. The style settings will affect cross store elements such as your fonts, cart behaviour and social media icons.

Applying a theme style will overwrite any existing settings in your Theme Settings tab. Your section specific settings won't be affected. More information about theme styles can be found in this Shopify article.

Slideshow section

The Showcase Shopify theme is all about imagery! You can choose to:

  • Fill window: This will crop the image to fit both the height and width of the screen being viewed. Selecting a suitable image and testing on varying devices is important with this option!
  • Fit image: This retains the original image aspect ratio, so whilst it will fill the width on all device sizes, the height will alter to maintain the original entire image content.
TIP!: For each slide you add, there is a useful option called 'Image alignment'. This allows you to ensure the most important part of your image is shown when you have the layout option set to 'Fill window'.
Showing 'Fill window' option, with slide set to 'Center right' on different size devices.

Add videos from YouTube or Vimeo with or without a cover image. You can set the videos to autoplay as soon as the page loads.

TIP!: Check the Full page width option to display your video without any border or margin.

Featured blog

Show up to 10 blog post excerpts on your home page choosing from a full width sliding feature layout or more traditional column layout.

TIP!: The feature layout requires your blog post to have a featured image and a blog post excerpt. To create an article excerpt go to your blog post and click on the add excerpt link below the article content.

Other page sections

These sections are shown based on the page you are currently viewing in the theme editor.

Collection list

Choose from grid or collage for your collection listing pages. It's also possible to create additional collection listing pages with your choice of collections. To create multiple collection listing pages, this article explains how.
Just skip the "Create your new page template" section, as the theme already includes a "page.list-collections" template.

Collection page

Enable infinite scroll to load in new products as the user reaches the end of a page and as with the collections list choose from a grid or collage layout.

Product page

Depending on your product image sizes, you might prefer to keep your header and logo bar above the product images. This is possible using the header overlay style settings - choose to push the content down, or have a tinted overlay or show your alternative logo.

Use the overriding description alignment setting to change the arrangement of your product description within the restricted reading width column on your product pages.

Choose traditional drop downs or list out your variant options. When using the listed layout, sold out single-variant products or variants which are unavailable will be shown as crossed through.

Change the cart type here to toggle whether the user is taken to the Cart page immediately after clicking the buy button on if they remain on the current page (this option is sometimes known as AJAX add to cart)
